The Last will and Testament of Richard Foys (Voice) 1465 - 1514

In the Name of God Amen I Richard Foys of Horsham being of a hole mynde and of perfect remembrance the xviii daye of ffebruary the yere of oure Lord God mt vc xiiiith order and make this my last testament and will in manr and forme folowyng

Fyrst I bequeth my soule to Almyghty god and to oure blessed Lady his mother and to all the seynts in hevyn my body to be buried on the south syde in the Churche of Horsham next unto the newe wyndowe there

Item I gyve and bequeth to the mother Churche of Chichester xiid and to the highe aulter of the parisse Churche of Horsham viiid

Also I gyve and bequeth to Margerie my doughter xxL to be paid when she is maried yf so be she be maried to her mothers pleasure and to her mynde

Also I gyve and bequeth to William my sonne xxL toward his exhibucion to be paide yerly lxvis viiid at my usual quarters of the yere by even porcions by the handes of Robert Wylson Clerke and Richiard michell whiche money the seid Richiard shall receyve of Richiard Coliar mercer of London and Richiard Cowpar of Eglesden that is to wyte of Richiard Coliar xiiiL and of Richiard Cowpar viiL and yf so be the seid William decesse before the seid xxL be paid to hym in manr and former abovseid then I will that the seid Robert and Richiard michell dispose the money beyng so unpaide after their discrecions for the moste welth of my soule

Also I gyve and bequeth to evry of my children iiiid The residue of my goodes not bequethed I gyve and bequeth to Elizabeth my wyff that she dispose it to the welth of my soule my frendes soules and all x~pen soules in dedes of Charite as she shall thynke most necessarie Whiche Elizabeth I order and make myn Executrix These witnesses Sir Thomas mascall Richiard hichooke Richiard Snelling John michell the elder Richiard michell and Richiard ffroyll

This is the Last Wyll of me Richiard Foys made the daye and yere above wryten

Fyrst I wyll that Elizabeth my wyff shall have th house that I dwell in with the appurtanences my landes called Cobbetts Gylhams and holands in horsham with their appurtan^nces and all my landes called Shermarke Grenehurst and Colyus mede and the house that I late purchased of Thomas Kyngeston in Warnham with all and singular their appurtanences for terme off her lyff kepynd the said housing sufficiently repayred without making of strepe and waste

And also I will that the seid Elizabeth kepe yerly my obite of vis viiid in the Churche of Horsham duryng her lyff for the aforeseid landes called Cobetts accordyng to the will of my Father John Foys

Also I will that Richiard my sonne Immediatly after my decease shalhave the house and land I late purchased of Stephen Diar in the bisshopriche of Canterbury in Horsham my lands called Calcote and losehings my Crofte lying at Wymbelpost the howse that John Earl late dwells in whiche I purchased of John Capelen my lands lying at Horsham that I late purchased of Bonyface my house in the westrete whiche page nowe dwellith in my garden called Randolfs that I bought of John Rye the house that Jacket nowe dwellith in called Stacys viiid of yerly rent owte of a Crofte of land p'teynyng to the ffrat^nytie of seynt John and seynt Anne of horsham the whiche Roger Aldyn nowe occupieth lying joynyng to Calcote iiiid of yerly rente oute of a Crofte called Tanners lying at warnhams corner and iid of yerly rente oute of the lands of Richiard waller called Goldherd / to have and to holde all the aforeseid houses lands and rents with all their appurtanences to the aforeseid Richiard and to his heires for evr / also I will that George my sonne shalhave Immediatly after my decease my house in the market place of horsham called Ayloves the house that William Ousey dwellith in called Rypewses with the barne in the waye my house and lande called Whyts tylburie pyllyngesland hardyngs myll hardyngs crofte and hornyngbroke lande that I bought of William potter my landes called Bulland and Froghole my fferme of Assheles mill and all my yeres in Lady lande with all and singuler there appurtan^ces and after the decease of his mother I will he shall have the house that I dwell in my landes called Cobetts Gylhams and holands with thappurtanences and after the decease of my mother I will he shall have my house called malyn a perys with a garden called ayloves whiche my mother now hath and occupieth for terme of her lyff of my gyfte.To have and to holde all the aforseid houses barn landes myll Farme and garden and other the premisses with their appurtanences to the seid George and to his heires for ever kepyng an obite of vis viiid yerly in the Churche of Horsham for ever for the land called Cobetts after the decease of his mother in fulfillyng of my Fathers wyll John Foysand also kepyng an obite of iiis iiiid in the Churche of Coufolde for John Okenden yerly during the terme of ?ii yeres

Also I will that George yerely paye to my moder xxiiiis during her lyff that is to saye at the ffests of the annunciacion of oure blessed lady xiis and at mighelmas xiis

Also I will that Henry my sonne shall have after my decease when he comyth to lawfull age my landes called Langhurst that Richiard michell nowe occupieth and the landes that I late bought of William Dankeston in Okeley my house called Granfords my landes called Okendens and my garden called pryants garden with viiid of yerly rent of Charmans whiche John Stowe nowe hath and the meane tyme to take the proffits therof by the discrecion of his mother and Richiard michell and after the decease of my wyff I will he shalhave my house and landes called Shermarke Grenehurst and Colyus mede and the house that I bought of Kyngston in Warnham To have and to holde all the aforseid landes houses rents gardens and other their prmisses with their appurtan^nces to the aforseid Henry and to his heires for ever

Item I will that the seid Henry Immediatly after my decease shalhave my house and garden called Dayes which I late purchased of Henry Michell to have to hym and his heires for ever
